Madras Kaapi

📍870 College St, Toronto, ON M6H 1A3

If you love new experiences and are a coffee enthusiast, "Madras Kaapi" is a must-try. Started in 2016 as an e-commerce website, this South Indian cafe is a passion project for two techie couples. Inspired by their Sunday brunches with Coffee (also known as 'Kaapi' in South India), the couple is now spreading the joy of Indian Coffee in Toronto, Canada.

I was filled with nostalgia on my visit here. With Kolam (traditional decorative art), wooden seating options, banana plantain leaves, Indian prints, vibrant decor, and the smell of filter coffee, this place took me back to the cultural roots of India. The gallery wall in this coffee house pays an homage to South India with pictures including the magnificent temple architectures, photos of women in sarees, prominent south Indian figures such as M. S. SubbulakshmiRajinikanthA.R.Rahman, etc. The huge patio is open during summers, with plenty of seating area, to enjoy a nice quiet moment savoring the warm frothy cup of Kaapi.

Most of the items mentioned in Madras Kaapi's menu are what Indians grew up eating traditionally. The Chocolate Rose Tea Cake is a delicious burst of flavors and goes really well with South Indian Filter Kaapi. Idli-Podi-Ghee (Savory Rice Cake-Dry spice mixture-Clarified Butter), a famous delicacy in South India, is another popular item on their menu. On weekends, they serve traditional South Indian delicacies such as Pongal, Semia Upma (thick porridge made of rice flour), etc.

The Coffee beans used at this cafe are directly sourced from Southern India. With earthy, woody undertones, this coffee house offers different blends with different coffee-to-roasted chicory ratios. These beans, ground coffee, stainless steel coffee filters, and brass coffee mugs are all available for purchase at the cafe.

In a nutshell, Madras Kaapi's decor, ambience, and menu are more of a cultural journey than just a cafe.

Best Sellers: South Indian Filter Coffee, Horlicks, Chocolate Rose Tea Cake, Walnut Date Cake, etc.
