Original Cappuccino

📍119 MacDougal St, New York, NY 10012

Today, you can find a cup of cappuccino around every nook and corner of the world. But this was not the case a century ago, especially here in the United States. Curious to know how America was introduced to cappuccino? Well...

Back in the 1927s, after running a successful family-owned barber business for years, Dominic Parisi decided to pursue his dream of opening a cafe. He spent 1000$ life savings on an Italian cappuccino machine that could make a cup of coffee in 3 seconds. It took him 3 months to learn the intricacies of making espresso. Then opening "Caffe Reggio," the first cafe to serve Cappuccino in America.

Since then, Caffe Reggio has been featured in many Hollywood movies, including The Godfather. In 1959, presidential optimistic John F. Kennedy gave a speech outside its doors. There is also a ceiling fan in the cafe featured in the film Casablanca.

The interiors are warm and cozy with original Renaissance art decor, antique pieces, and small marble-topped tables. And the exteriors are the perfect emerald green colored with outdoor seating options. Caffe Reggio serves various coffees and breakfast items, including pastries, pasta, etc., all ingredients sourced locally.

This is definitely one of the oldest must-visit cafes in the New York area and can get very crowded. Don't forget to check out the original chrome and bronze-colored cappuccino machine in the cafe.

Best Sellers: Cappuccino (Original and Hazelnut), Italian pastries.
